Adding or editing event categories

Creating new event categories in Sellvio is a straightforward process that requires just a few simple steps:

General Tab

Event categories

  • Name - The name serves a dual purpose, as it is used both in the administrative interface and as the display name for store customers.
  • Parent Category - Specifies the parent category for a subcategory. To create a new top-level category, simply leave this field empty.
  • Language - Categories can be created for each language active in the online store. The language is automatically set to the one selected on the listing page before clicking the "Add New" button.
  • Active - Determines whether the category is visible to store customers.

Once all required fields (marked with an asterisk) are filled out, the event category can be saved by clicking the Submit or Submit and Stay button.

SEO Tab

Sellvio provides settings for in-depth SEO optimization for each content type and category. A comprehensive explanation of the various SEO settings and how to use them can be found here.

Sharing Tab

Under the dedicated Sharing tab, store owners can configure Open Graph (OG) settings for the language of the category.

Event categories

  • OG Title - The category title that appears when the category is shared. It helps control how the page title is displayed on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to an online audience.
  • OG Description - The category description that appears when the page is shared.
  • OG picture - The image that appears alongside the OG Title and OG Description when content is shared on social media. This image can only be configured for the store's primary language. When a gallery is shared on social media, the same image is used across all languages.

After filling out all required fields (marked with an asterisk), the event category can be saved by clicking the Submit or Submit and Stay button.

Translations Tab

Although event categories are created separately for each language, administrators can link categories and specify which category serves as the translation of another on the Translations tab.

This ensures that when customers are browsing a category and switch the store's language, instead of being redirected to the homepage, they are redirected to the linked category in the newly selected language.

Event categories

To assign a translation to the edited event category, click on one of the automatically populated language fields and start typing. Once the results appear, click on the event category you wish to assign as the translation.

Event categories

To unlink event categories (remove a translation in one language), simply click the small "X" button at the end of the field.

Always remember to click the Submit or Submit & Stay button after making any changes to the category.
